Bible Stories Teach Us About Life Now and Then
The United Church of God recognized the fact that many people do not see the connection between Bible stories and modern-day life. That is why they have created a series called “Profiles of Faith,” which provides provocative insights and examinations into the stories of men and women whose stories are told in the Bible. These stories include valuable lessons that can be applied to our modern-day lives. The stories are told and explanations are given about how the story is applicable to modern-day life. This can help individuals learn from the faith and actions of others – even if those acts happened in ancient times. From ancient times to modern days, people want to make connections with stories they read and hear.
The mission of the United Church of God is to spread the word of Jesus Christ, and the good news or gospel of the Kingdom of God was the core of Jesus’ message. Obviously then, the Church has a great focus on discussing this glorious Kingdom and what it means.
The Bible tells us that this Kingdom will be a world-ruling monarchy established by God on this earth through Jesus Christ. As we learn more, we find out that the world will be a wonderful place; all humanity will be taught a way of life that will bring peace, prosperity and productive, fulfilling lives.
But even many people with this information wonder about the difference between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven. The truth is that the two Kingdoms are one and the same – the terms are synonyms. The explanation is that in ancient times Jews tried to avoid the use of the word “God”; instead, the word “heaven” was used in its place. The United Church of God offers a free booklet on the topic of the Kingdom of God. Simply visit their website for detailed information.
The Feast of Tabernacles is an eight-day event that represents that coming time of extraordinary harmony and peace; the time when Jesus will return to earth and directly rule the world. This festival has a strong family focus with daily worship and activities. United Church of God members and families travel to more than 50 sites around the world to participate in this important biblical festival. The Church rents large facilities such as conference centers to accommodate the daily worship and activities. Proper observance requires that members reside in temporary “tabernacles” (usually a nearby hotel) while participating. Observance and rejoicing at this festival is taken seriously by Church members, who consider it a high point of the year.
