I don’t like to boast, but I like to think that I have one of the largest collections of funny vintage t shirts in the US. Well, maybe not the entire US, but I’d bet good money that I have the best collection in Wisconsin.

T Shirts

That’s part of my FaceBook profile and I get a lot of comments from people who find that fact that I’m in Wisconsin to be particularly humorous. One guy left a comment on my wall that said something to the effect of I should be bragging about having the biggest collection of cheese, or shredded Brett Favre jerseys. Ha ha! If that was printed on a shirt, I might just consider it for my collection.

He does raise a valid point, though. Maybe if you live in New York City, you might be able to pick up a really good, funny t shirt at one of dozens of shops, if not more. Same thing in Los Angeles or San Francisco. Those places are crawling with head shops and vintage clothing stores. Fortunately, even up here in the snow, I have the Internet. And let me tell you, the Internet beats any head shop hands down. There’s eBay and that sort of thing, but I’m not really into picking up used shirts, funny or not, and I’m also not particularly thrilled with the concept of bidding against other collectors for an item that I really want. I once saw an original Beverly Hillbillies tee shirt on eBay and I was determined to buy it. But I ended up bidding against some guy who went toe to toe with me all the way to the final second. I won the shirt, but before I knew it, I’d spent two hundred dollars on the thing. Ouch!

The thing about the Internet is that there are specialty stores that are only online. They can afford to specialize in only one thing, because their market is worldwide. And specializing means they can carry every single item you could possibly imagine, within the scope of their speciality. I found the ultimate web site for buying funny vintage t shirts and I bet they carry more shirts than you’d find scattered through the various stores in any of the big cities. Jaws? They have Jaws shirts. Chuck Norris? How many different Chuck Norris tees would you like? Zombies, Saved By The Bell, Seinfeld, MacGyver, The A Team, Wally World, The Office, Ghostbusters? This place carries all the pop culture classics. They have sales as well and that’s when I really stock up. Last week they had a special on “$6 Mystery Tees” and I took advantage of that one to seriously bulk up my funny t shirt collection at bargain basement prices. I look forward to the postman’s arrival since I found this place. Sometimes I open the package up while he’s there and we both have a laugh.
